Real Beauty

Since we discussed advertisements in class, it made me think of the Dove commercials I have seen through the years. Dove has always been a pretty positive brand, helping women embrace their true beauty and discover their real identity. One of my favorite Dove commercials is this  You're More Beautiful Than You Think  campaign. I love seeing the two different sketches. The self description was always less attractive and further from their true appearance than the strangers description. Words people used to describe him or herself included "protrudes," and "fat." "Big" was used multiple times. When describing a stranger, words used were "cute," and the word "nice" was used three times. I think this shows that we are more beautiful than we think, and we need to stop focusing on the "big" things we don't like, and start embracing what we love about ourselves.

Media Moods

Lately I have been noticing the different ways media affects my mood. Because I watch TV shows and movies while I am at work, the shows I watch that day greatly affect the kind of day I have. It totally changed my day, I was on edge, felt more stress, and just needed to take a breather to get through my day. The next day I strictly watched  Seinfeld  and tried to have a more positive day, which actually ended up working! I was more positive, patient, and productive. I thought this perfectly showed how what we watch and interact with...

If you have never seen the "Are you still watching?" popup that Netflix sends out after watching so many episodes, have you truly accepted the media driven world we are living in? I didn't watch many shows or movies until I started my job. I proofread and edit textbooks at work, which can be quite boring. Therefore, my coworkers and I will watch Netflix on one half of the screen, and edit our books on the other half. This has led to me watching A LOT more TV and movies than ever before. I get a designated 4 hours of binge watching 5 days a week. This week I was recommended to watch Netflix's show, "Atypical." I was a little hesitant at first because the premise is about the struggles and life-changing events a family with a son with autism goes through. I was worried the show would be too dramatic and serious for my liking. However, after the third person recommended it to me I watched it, and ended up loving it! Not only was it humorous and entertaining, i...
