Are you still watching?

If you have never seen the "Are you still watching?" popup that Netflix sends out after watching so many episodes, have you truly accepted the media driven world we are living in? I didn't watch many shows or movies until I started my job. I proofread and edit textbooks at work, which can be quite boring. Therefore, my coworkers and I will watch Netflix on one half of the screen, and edit our books on the other half. This has led to me watching A LOT more TV and movies than ever before. I get a designated 4 hours of binge watching 5 days a week. This week I was recommended to watch Netflix's show, "Atypical."
I was a little hesitant at first because the premise is about the struggles and life-changing events a family with a son with autism goes through. I was worried the show would be too dramatic and serious for my liking. However, after the third person recommended it to me I watched it, and ended up loving it! Not only was it humorous and entertaining, it covered topics about autism that I otherwise wouldn't have been aware of. However shallow my knowledge of the subject is, I feel like I am better equipped on how to recognize and act around those who are on the spectrum. I am glad producers are starting to produce shows with real life challenges that allow people to gain a better understanding and acceptance of all people.
